After Jesus had spoken to his disciples about the story of the seeds that fell along the wayside. He told the crowd another parable that went like this. If a lamp is placed under a basket, or under a bed, and not on a stand, no one will be able to see.
Jesus said to them, "If anyone has ears to hear, let him hear.” Pay attention to what you hear: with the measure you use, (with the word you have studied ) it will be measured to you, and still more will be added to you. For to the one who has, more will be given, (the more you learn, the more you gain) and from the one who has not, even what he has will be taken away. (If you do not study, you cannot give out to the unsaved) Jesus said, "Do not just listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. Anyone who listens to the word, but does not do what it says is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like."
In Jesus's day, lamps were made from clay. They were simple, with a opening for the olive oil and a "nozzle" on which the flax wick would rest. These lamps were small enough to be carried in the palm of the hand. This lamp which Jesus was familiar with was the "Herodian" lamp, made on a potter's wheel. This lamp was placed on a stand so that the room would light up for all to see. In Psalm 119:105 it says Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.

When we listen to God, we grow in His word. God's word makes us strong in our faith. We must always live our lives according to His word. So let us who have the light in us give light to the world ( tell all ) Do not keep the light in the darkness ( to yourself ), let us share the light to the rest of the world. The more we learn the more we can share.
