Mark 4v24 ~ Let it sink in

Mark 4v24

Amplified Bible (AMP)

"24 And He said to them, Be careful what you are hearing. The measure [of thought and study] you give [to the truth you hear] will be the measure [of virtue and knowledge] that comes back to you—and more [besides] will be given to you who hear."

Sometimes there are verses that I feel like I need to look at a little closer, and spend some time on them to really understand.

This verse is just after the part where Jesus was explaining to His Disciples, the story of the kingdom of heaven, compared to a sower that sowed seed on bad ground and good ground.

Be Careful what you are Hearing

The first thing in this verse that strikes me, is that Jesus said "Be Careful". The dictionary explains careful as cautious, detailed, diligent, particular, protective, sure, thorough, slowly.

After reading that, I realized that I read over the word (a particular verse) too quickly before moving on to the next verse, chapter or book. I never really let any of it sink in.

Jesus just said in Mark 4:14 that the sower sows the "word". God says in Hebrews 4:12 that, His word is alive and active, sharper than a two edged sword. But my life doesn't really reflect that reality.

Jesus said "Be careful what you are hearing". Romans 10:17 says that Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the WORD of God. So we must be CARFUL, protective and cautious over what we are HEARING when we read the word.

The measure of thought and study we give to the truth we hear, will be the measure of virtue and knowledge that comes back to us.

The measure of thought? Thinking about the word, plain and simple, just thinking about the word and then studying it by reading the verse more than once, to really come to terms with what is being said.

The word "thought" in the dictionary is explained as reflect, ponder, focus attention, imagine, visualize and recall.

The word "study" is explained as investigate, examine, review, analyse in order to discover essential features or meaning.

So this far, I need to be careful, protective, go slowly and really think about this verse, and investigate the essential features and meaning of each part of the Truth I am reading.

The measure of thought and study that I GIVE to the Truth I hear. So I give thought and study, giving to God my thought and study.

The word Truth is explained as "A fact that has been verified" or "Conformity to reality or actuality".

The measure I give thought and study, to the truth I hear, will be the measure of VIRTUE and KNOWLEDGE that comes back to me.

So by giving thought and study of the truth, I get Virtue and Knowledge.

Virtue is explained as the quality of doing what is right and avoiding what is wrong, admirable quality or moral excellence.

So the word is alive, I give my thought and study, and I receive VIRTUE and Knowledge that will protect and guide me.

More will be Given to you that Hear

The last part of the verse says that "more will be given to you that hear".

The next verse explains that those that hear, will receive even more, but those that don't hear, even that which they have, will be taken away by force.

From verse 14, Jesus explains how the devil will come and take the word away immediately, if we are not Careful, Diligent and Protective. How temptations come and take the word away, also how the worries of this world will take the word away.

So if I want the word to have Power in my Life, "I" have to be Careful, Protective and Diligent over the word. I must give thought to and study the verses in the bible that stand out to me, in the same measure as I need help or breakthrough in my life.

If I have a very big problem I'm faced with, then I must give very big thought and study to the word that will give me virtue and knowledge to overcome, and live.
