Rebecca, gave birth to twin boys. Their names were Esau and Jacob. The two boys looked different and their personalities were different from each other. The first child came out red, all over like a hairy garment: and they called his name Esau. After that came his brother, and his hand took hold on Esau’s heel: and his name was called Jacob. Isaac, the father was sixty years old when Rebecca gave birth to them.
Jacob preferred to stay at home. He was the youngest son. Rebecca loved Jacob. He was Rebecca’s favorite out of the two boys. The father Isaac's favorite was Esau, he was the first born.
Esau loved the outdoor life and hunting, he often brought venison meat home. Isaac, looked forward to Esau’s coming home with all the meat and looked forward to eating and enjoying the stews that were prepared for him.
Many years went by and Isaac was old, his eyes were dim so that he could not see, meaning he was very old and blind. The father knew his time was close, it was important for him to bless his oldest son before he passed away, for this was the custom that took place in those days.
Esau, would be the new head in the family. Isaac sent Esau out hunting so that a meal of Isaac’s favorite venison meat would be prepared so that he could bless Esau for his future.
Rebecca wanted Isaac to bless Jacob as the eldest son, so she convinced Jacob to trick his father. Rebecca made his favorite goat stew, and got Jacob to pretend to be his brother by dressing him up in Esau’s cloths. His arms and neck were covered in goat skin, so it would feel hairy like his brother’s and he smelled like him too.
Rebecca helped him in his disguise and sent him off to his father with a bowl of food. Isaac enjoyed the smell of the delicious food but was surprised that Esau returned so quick from his hunting trip.
He asked “Are you really Esau?” “Yes, I am Esau,” Jacob lied to his father. The Word says in (Genesis 27:19 Jacob said unto his father, I am Esau your firstborn: I have done what you have told me to do. Now sit up and eat of my game, so that you may proceed to bless me. Isaac said to his son, how is it that you have found the game so quickly, my son? And he said, because the Lord your God caused it to come to me. ) That was from the Amplified bible.
Isaac reached out and felt the hairy arms and praised to God to bless Jacob, still thinking that he was his oldest son. (Genesis 27:28-29 From the Amplified bible.) This is the blessing he prayed over his son:
And may God give you of the dew of the heavens and of the fatness of the earth and abundance of grain and wine. Let people serve you and nations bow down to you: be master over your brothers, and let your mother’s son’s bow down to you. Let everyone be cursed who curses you and favored with blessing who blesses you.
Esau returned from his trip and prepared some food for his father, and learned the truth of what his brother had done. Esau was angry by what his brother had done.
Rebecca was afraid of her son, she persuaded Isaac to send Jacob away to seek a wife for himself for she knew Esau was very angry.
Jacob, was send to stay with Rebecca’s brother, Laban until Esau had calmed down. Now on Jacob’s way to Laban, the journey felt very lonely and Jacob was scared for what the future might hold. Settling down to sleep in a small valley, he soon was fast asleep and he had a dream. In his dream, he saw a staircase reaching from the earth up to the heavens, with beautiful angles moving up and down from the staircase. A voice appeared: he knew it was God speaking to him saying. (Genesis 28:13-16 I am the Lord, the God of Abraham your father and the God of Isaac: I will give to you and to your descendants the land on which you are lying. And your offspring shall be as the dust or sand of the ground, and you shall spread abroad to the west and the east and the north and the south: and by you and your offspring shall all the families of the earth be blessed and bless themselves. And behold, I am with you and will keep watch over you wherever you may go, and I will bring you back to this land: for I will not leave you until I have done all which I have told you. And Jacob woke up from his sleep and he said, surely the Lord is in this place and I did not know it.) Amplified bible.

And after that came his brother out, and his hand took hold on Esau's heel; and his name was called Jacob: and Isaac was threescore years old when she bare them.
And the boys grew: and Esau was a cunning hunter, a man of the field; and Jacob was a plain man, dwelling in tents.
And Esau said to Jacob, Feed me, I pray thee, with that same red pottage; for I am faint: therefore was his name called Edom.
And Jacob said, Sell me this day thy birth right.
And Esau said, Behold, I am at the point to die: and what profit shall this birth right do to me?
And Jacob said, Swear to me this day; and he swore unto him: and he sold his birth right unto Jacob.
Then Jacob gave Esau bread and pottage of lentils; and he did eat and drink, and rose up, and went his way: thus Esau despised his birth right.
And I will make thy seed to multiply as the stars of heaven, and will give unto thy seed all these countries; and in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed;
Then Isaac sowed in that land, and received in the same year an hundredfold: and the LORD blessed him.
And he said, Behold now, I am old, I know not the day of my death:
Now therefore take, I pray thee, thy weapons, thy quiver and thy bow, and go out to the field, and take me some venison;
And make me savory meat, such as I love, and bring it to me, that I may eat; that my soul may bless thee before I die.
And Rebekah heard when Isaac spoke to Esau his son. And Esau went to the field to hunt for venison, and to bring it.
With each Sunday school lesson, I try to give the kids special verses, activities and pictures to color in. Below you will find the download links for the special verse of the day and more. Please feel free to use them as you like for personal use in your own Sunday school classes. The wording and any images on this website are not to be sold or reproduced in any publications online or offline. I drew these pictures so that you could add your own verses to them for the day. Color the edgings with marker pens and a little bit of glitter. You can hand them out to the children to take home as bible verses for the day, even better if each child has a separate book, they can paste it into their own book.
