Two Fish and Five Loaves

A very long time ago on a beautiful day, many people came together to listen and learn about Jesus. The people were very excited to meet Jesus. Nobody thought about bringing food along.

When it was evening, the disciples came to Jesus and said, “This is a lonely place, and the day is now over; send the crowds of people away to go into the villages and buy food for themselves.”

Jesus said, “They need not go away; you give them something to eat.”, Jesus said this to test the disciples, because He himself knew what He would do.

The disciples said,  “How are we to buy bread, so that these people may eat?”  And they said to Him, “Shall we go and buy two hundred denarii worth of bread, and give it to them to eat?” It will cost us too much! And He said to them, “How many loaves do you have? Go and see.”

One of His disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, said to Him, “There is a boy here who has five barley loaves and two fish, but what are they among so many?”

The young boy gave the two fish and five loaves to Jesus. Jesus said, “Get the people to sit down.” Now there was much grass in the place; so the men sat down, in number of about five thousand.  So they sat down in groups, by hundreds and by fifties.

And taking the five loaves and the two fish He looked up to heaven, and prayed to His Father, thanking Him for the food and breaking it, and gave them to the disciples to give to the crowd to eat. This is where the miracle took place. There was enough food for all the people.

All ate and were satisfied. There was so much food that they could not eat it all. And they took up what was left over, twelve baskets of broken pieces. And those who ate the loaves were five thousand men, without the women and children.
