One day Moses was walking in the desert and all of a sudden, he saw a bush which was on fire. The bush was on fire, but the bush did not burn up. Then a voice came out of the bush, saying “Moses, Moses.” He looked around, but could see no one.
The voice of God spoke again and said, “Do not come near; take your sandals off, the place on which you are standing, is holy ground.”
Moses knew it was God who spoke, so he quickly removed his shoes and fell on his knees. God said: “I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.” Moses hid his face, because he was afraid to look at God.
God said to Moses that he wanted him to go to Pharaoh and take His people; the Israelites, out of Egypt. Moses was eighty years old, and had lost most of his self-confidence. God realized this and told him, that He would be with him at all times to help him.
God asked. “What do you have in your hand? “Moses answered “A rod,”
“Cast it on the ground.” said God. Moses did so, and his rod became a snake, then God said to pick it up by the tail, and as soon as Moses did this, the snake turned back into a rod.
Moses asked God for a helper, so God made plans to send Aaron, his brother, who he had last seen 40 years ago. There was great joy, when the two brothers met each other again, and they were happy.
